This past weekend I was bit by the creativity bug. I painted for the first time in over a year. I felt invigorated as the paint washed over the canvas and I was more than satisfied with the results.
However, as I painted I was inspired by words which seem to fit this process. So, upon finishing my painting, I sat down and wrote a poem.
This Place
This place she’s avoided for so long,
Afraid of judgement
And fearful
Of what she would discover.
She tried but her mind wandered,
To corners
In rooms of her mind
Where she did not want to go.
She closed the box,
Not to return.
Avoiding that space
Where lines and shapes
And colours and hues
Live and breathe a life of their own.
The paleness of the canvas called to her,
A lonely whisper,
A sorrowful song.
She opened the box
And took a deep breath.
There’s no sense avoiding it.
Life is most beautiful in colour.

Beautiful painting and poem. Glad you took it back up :)
Beautiful expression of how you were feeling. I wish I could paint or write for that matter, I would love to express myself more artistically . Lovely words xx
Excellent work!
Yay!!! I love your painting! Sounds like you need to STOP avoiding the creative urge. Sooo wonderful and therapeutic, isn’t it?? *smile*
My gosh, this is inspiring. I used to paint a long, long time ago. Thank you for posting this and I thought your poem was lovely.
The red on your painting reminds me of seals on old Chinese paintings. Great touch.
You are so talented!
Jennifer, I love that you took the time to paint! Doesn’t the process of tapping into these creative tasks invigorate you?
I have two unpainted canvases in an upstairs closet. This post is giving me ideas!
Undoubtedly a beautiful painting accompanied by an excellent poem.
The poem and painting are beautiful. Do you ever “explain” your paintings? Can you? Does it matter? I hope my questions aren’t insulting, I ask because I don’t express myself in art.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment regarding my Letter to My Biological Mother. I appreciate all your support.

Finding Humour in Everyday Life
Since I haven’t painted for awhile, I decided to approach the canvas a little more openly than I usually do. I had a vision of what I wanted the final product to look like but I didn’t strain myself to get there… I allowed myself to be completely open to the process. Does that make sense?
This painting is entitled “Opening”.
Nice painting and beautiful poem.
This is really beautiful and touching…
you have a beautiful soul…
