It started with the glimpse of a challenge. Then the idea of it festered within me. A handstand a day for 365 days.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen glimpses of my handstands. On the first day… I decided to give it a whirl! We were at the lake, I gave my husband the camera, and I went for it!

Day 1

I can feel the strength in my arms but on a day that I’m frenzied or harried, my balance gets thrown off and the handstand is more challenging. It kind of reminds me of tree pose in yoga… without focus, you’re all over the place and some days are just better than others.

Day 4

Even on the hottest day of the year, I did a handstand. No excuses… a handstand a day.

Day 11

On day 11, after practicing a few handstands against the fence, I decided to do a handstand, unsupported, on my own.

Great picture hey?!

What the picture doesn’t show is a few seconds later when my back arched so much that I couldn’t hold myself up anymore and I crashed onto my head and jarred my neck. Ouch. Body and ego aching, I got my ice pack and told myself that one day, I’ll be able to do a handstand unaided and NOT hurt myself when coming out of it.

So why am I doing this? Well, first off, I like a challenge. Secondly, I am at a point in life where I need to feel strong. Emotionally, I feel I am gaining strength but I also want to feel strong physically. Outside of lifting weights, I want to challenge myself physically. Some people run marathons or train for a triathlon… I want to do handstand acrobatics.

Day 15

Now that I’ve told you all about this, there’s no backing down… there’s no stopping… it’s out there. I’m doing a handstand a day for 365 days.
