I absolutely LOVE a good deal. Really. It makes my day.
Earlier this year, I shared that I wanted to build a mud pie kitchen for my daughter. After months of thrift store shopping, I found the perfect “base” for the kitchen.
This little cart is perfectly child-sized at about 2 1/2 feet high. The wood looked worn, it had been lovingly coloured on, and was a little wobbly.
At a whopping $4.99 (did I mention how much I love a good deal), I bought it and began the process of refurbishing it. My husband tightened all the screws and reinforced the legs of the cart.
I painted it a lovely slate grey and white. We added plastic-coated cup hooks (to hang the utensils on) and gathered all the elements needed for a mud pie kitchen (pans, spoons, utensils, pine cones, rocks, etc.).
I absolutely love how it turned out and my four-year-old daughter loves it too! Summer, here we come!
It’s amazing how something so mundane as an old piece of furniture, could be transformed into something so magical!
You did a wonderful job taking something plain and used and making it look cute and fresh!! Funny how a coat of paint can completely transform something. :)
This is so awesome! She will totally love it!
It is so perfect that I hate to imagine that fresh paint caked with mud, but what a deal and it will be so much fun for her.
Fantastic up-cycling! Such a great way to welcome summer- and keep little ones busy (smile).
You are so cool! Seriously, I want to hang out with you. I would totally go thrifting with you, squeal in delight with you when you find those perfect pieces for pennies, and have so much fun upcycling stuff! Ok, when are you moving to Florida? ;0
That trolley is just too cute! I bet your lovies will be out there every single day playing with it. :) It has my wheels turning! I see dumpster diving in my future! (We have a “dumpster” (a fenced in area, really) in our neighborhood where people put their furniture & electronics.)
Thank you for this inspiration, for sharing this with us on {Magic of the Mundane}.
Sofia, you need to ask me when I’m moving to Florida when it’s minus thirty here in Alberta! I just might respond with an ASAP!
I would love to see any thrifty transformations you may take on!
