It started over a month and a half ago. I found an insane pin on Pinterest… I could make 4L of wine for only $1.50?! SOLD! Maybe it’s the French blood that’s surging through my veins but I suddenly had delusions of  becoming a winemaker.

When I discovered I could make wine for less than $2, I decided to give it a shot! Here are my adventures in homemade wine-making!

I knew I could achieve this “dream” despite manufacturing my vino in the basement of my 3 bedroom townhouse. Armed with a 4L water jug, some yeast, sugar, a can of frozen grape juice, and a balloon, I went to work manufacturing my “liquid gold”.

Here’s a picture of my state-of-the-art wine-making equipment.

Fast-forward six long weeks and here are the results. Not exactly “gold”… more like murky, cloudy water from the bottom of your dishwasher.

Despite it’s appearance, I had to try it.

The taste? Sickeningly sweet.

I had to water it down to make it tolerable.

The alcohol content? I have no idea but half a glass and I was quite inebriated… maybe that’s from the plastic of the jug that broke down during the brewing process and rushed up to my brain.

So, my friends, wine-making isn’t going on the resume of this Albertan girl.

However, I have a few ideas for the name of this wine. I’m debating between: Velvet Fog, Murky Nun, or Vino Gris. What do you think? Do you have any great names for my concoction?

If you’ve read this posting and for some crazy reason you’re interested in this wine-making experiment, instructions to make this vino can be found HERE.

Cheers!
