It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these wine-induced rants. Here are my latest alcohol-induced thoughts (and the unpretentious wine review to go with it)….

Why do people say that?!

You know what I mean; those phrases that are not only cliches but also make no sense?

Why do people say these things?! #questionoftheday Click To Tweet

Here are the sayings that irk me the most.

“No skin off my nose.”
What. Do. You. Mean?! The idea of skin coming off a nose is disgusting. Why, oh why, is this a common phrase? Is skin off of someone’s nose a common occurrence? I think not.

“The proof is in the pudding.”
The “real” message of this cliche before we shortened it was, “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”. Makes more sense doesn’t it?

“Quit cold turkey.”
Hmmm. Cold turkey is delicious. Raw turkey is disgusting (and unhealthy). Quitting a bad habit without any assistance is delicious and disgusting? Just why exactly is this phrase so common?

“What goes around comes around.”
If that’s really true, I’ll take an order of money… lots of it.

“Cat got your tongue?”
If a cat got my tongue, not only would I have a horrible allergic reaction but that cat would be put down for being so crazy as to attack me and get my tongue.

“It’s raining cats and dogs”?
Has it ever rained cats and dogs? I think not.

Do you have any phrases that drive you crazy?! Please share. In the meantime, CHEERS!

WINE REVIEW

This posting has been brought to you by the 2009 Spanish wine, Beso De Vino. The pretty turquoise blue on the label and the cute bull with a red foil heart caught my eye. The $12.99 price tag further convinced me that I should try this bottle of red wine. Then I read the label…  “roasted coffee, baked berry, chocolate covered espresso bean and sweet herb aromas follow through to supple, truly medium-to-full body with tangy apple accents and lively and balanced tannins.”

Ummm, yeah – it tastes like the label says. I think. Coffee flavours… sure. It tastes like a red wine. It gets better with every glass. Really. Much better.

Would I buy it again? Maybe (if I memorized the description on the label and wanted to impress somebody).

**Disclaimer: This was not a paid review. I like wine and I’m adventurous in selecting wines to try. Pretty labels, organic vineyards, interesting names and/or price usually persuade me in my decision to try a particular wine. Although free wine would be pretty cool, wouldn’t it? So, if you would like to pay me for my review, I will accept your money and/or wine and gladly change this disclaimer.**
