We closed up the lake lot for the year. I am saddened. Our place of food, conversation, meaningful work and youthful play is gone for at least six months. I already miss it.
But isn’t that the nature of the seasons? Isn’t that the nature of life? You move through one season to the next. Sad to let go of the past season but excited for the joys that the next season brings.
My senses are alive in fall. The sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet, the colours of autumn painting the landscape, the crisp air, the sound of geese honking in the sky overhead, the smell of moist earth and damp leaves… it is fall and another season has passed.
It feels like my life is moving into the season of fall.
Gone are the long sunny days (and late nights) – as I need more sleep than ever.
My life is colourful – despite my graying hair.
My senses are alive with the sights and sounds of my babies growing up.
The evidence of years of laughter are beginning to show around my eyes.
The aching in my joints makes me want to join that flock of honking geese in the sky and go somewhere warm.
Gone are my days of tube tops, shorts and bikinis. My body is more likely flattered by a good fitting pair of jeans and a turtleneck.
Regardless, fall is my favourite season. I might hang onto summer a little bit longer but I anticipate I am entering the best “season” of my life.
What season are you in right now?

hmmm…. a good thinking kinda question..
The one constant thing in life is change. Sometimes, we embrace them, sometimes, we dread them. It’s difficult saying goodbye to things we’ve gotten so used to, but change is, I’m afraid, essential. It’s an inevitable part of the cycle of life.
It seems to me that I am always fighting the transition to the next season, rather than just going with the flow. It’s as though I am constantly feeling like “there’s still so much I haven’t done yet” so I try to postpone the inevitable (until I somehow, magically, catch up?).
And even though we don’t experience the change of seasons here, I do try to recreate a little bit of it, as much as I can, for my family.
