There’s a fun little game going ’round the blogosphere and I happened to get “nominated”. If you are nominated, you give a shout out to the person who nominated you, share 7 facts about yourself, and then nominate some of your own favorite or inspiring bloggers.
I have two lovely friends in the blogging world who nominated me to share 7 fun facts about me. The amazing Jessica from Pig and Dac and the lovely Carolina from Mama Instincts have asked me to share 7 facts about myself. As many of you know, I have a pretty detailed About Me page. I began to wonder, is there anything that is “new” that I can share with you?
As I pondered and thought, I realized I was over-thinking this… and almost three months have gone by without responding to their nominations. So here I am, ready to share seven random facts about me.
7 Facts About Me
1- I am a list maniac
I make lists, upon lists, upon lists, upon lists. Sticky notes can’t contain me (even though I like to add them to my calendar). I make my own spreadsheets, have several apps, and a task list on my laptop. Oh, and as for spreadsheets… I get an absolute HIGH from making spreadsheets on Excel. I think I need professional help.
2- I think I’m funny
My humour ranges from terrible, horrible, no good, very bad puns; to goofy antics, to an intense wit that only I can handle. Seriously… I laugh at my own jokes ALL the time. Sometimes others join in and laugh with me. But usually I’m laughing alone.
3- I am VERY expressive
When I talk enthusiastically, my hands fly (I think that’s my French blood). I also make many facial expressions, hence why 3/4 of the pictures of me don’t turn out. Before I chicken out, I will share the evidence below BUT before I share I have to say I was going for enthusiasm with both of these pictures. What I ended up with was FAR from enthusiasm….
4- Sometimes I listen to music during dinner because I can’t stand the sound of my children chewing their food
Slurp. Smack. Suck. I can’t stand the sound of people eating with their mouths open. My husband is the same way. Although we try our best to get our children to eat with their mouths closed, there are moments when I need to blast some music or leave the room altogether because the lip smacking is driving me THAT crazy.
5- I am absolutely maniacal, crazy, insane at least once a month for 4-5 days
Yes folks, I have THE worst mood-altering PMS. I become this miserable monster who snips, snaps, and bawls about everything. It sucks so much that a little while ago I tried the birth control patch just to help curb the intensity of my mood swings. The patch, however, was short-lived.
One day into taking the patch I got a couple sudden and unexplainable bruises on the same thigh that the patch was adhered to. I had to trace them with a pen and monitor them so that they didn’t grow bigger and I had to stay up off my feet as much as possible until they started to recede. It was weird. Anyway, sorry about the side story… what it comes down to is, I’ll take PMS over an embolism any day.
6- I’m a bit introverted
It may not seem like it but I’m a bit of an introvert. Even though I love social occasions, they completely stress me out. The more people I don’t know, the more stressed I get. However, a glass of wine and a good friend or my hubby beside me and I’m good to go.
It takes a while for me to really engage in conversations with others. I’m always worried I’m going to stick my foot in my mouth. Ugh. I wish I weren’t that way, but I am.
7- I have a bad memory
This is a horrible one to admit. Perhaps this is why I’m a list maniac! I can’t remember things. My husband tells me stuff and unless I make a huge note mentally or literally, I will forget what he shared. My daughter reminds me all the time of stuff. It’s embarrassing. The biggest frustration… it takes me several weeks to memorize a scripture. The same scripture for my daughter only takes a few days.
So that’s 7 things you may not have known about me but here’s the deal… I can’t select 7 bloggers to tag in this, I simply can’t. I love so many of you there’s no way I could choose just 7. So if you’re reading this, feel free to pick up the torch and share 7 random things about yourself. Make sure to let me know so I can read them – I love randomness.
Hooray for list makers! :) I’m not to the extreme as you are, but I typically have a couple of different lists going at all times. I’m also on the introverted side. If I know everybody (or most everybody) at a particular gathering, I can talk and mingle the whole time. If I know very few people there, I get stressed out. It’s a strange mix of feeling unwelcome (even if that isn’t the case) and feeling like I’m on show the whole time. I too wish I wasn’t like that, but sadly I am.
I love that you’re a fellow list maker… yet for some reason that didn’t surprise me. You seem super organized.
What you described at gatherings is exactly what I do. It’s horrible.
Thanks for sharing Chelsea! I love finding things I have in common with other people.
YUp, totally forgetful here and that is totally why I make lists, too! See we have even more in common then we knew. Happy Thanksgiving now to you and your family ;)
Yay! Love that we discovered more things that we have in common!
Wishing you a lovely Thanksgiving Janine. I am so thankful for you.
More reasons why we have become such good friends, Jennifer.
Hadn’t thought about playing music to cover the eating noise—I eat in the living room. Well…that, and we don’t own a table BIG enough for us to sit together yet.
I can’t survive without lists–but yours are CLEAN, ORGANIZED. Me, I simply have to have things written down. God made paper as far as I’m concerned, because it’s the perfect memory–which covers the last point you made.
This did give me a great idea though–because my new blogging schedule has me dropping back to once a week, but doing epic posts…WITH infographics and WITH podcasts…and maybe a video from time to time. Has to be epic to be worth it….
ANYway–I think, since I’m 45, I should do a 45 facts about Jaime Buckley. I’ll find someway to put you in there too, but definitely mentioning this article. Well done, ya chicken. Took you this long to do it?
(smirk)
Off to cook a turkey and watch all the Lord of the Rings movies with the kids…..
(waves)
I just love that I’m finding all these commonalities with my friends. How cool!
To tell you the truth, it took me so long to post this because I was trying to select 7 bloggers to pass the torch onto and I just couldn’t do it. I know too many inspiring, wonderful bloggers. So there was writing, scrapping, writing, deleting, and then finally I just posted it without the list.
I think the 45 facts about you would be cool. Fun stuff sir.
As for the LOTR marathon… jealous and also not surprised that this would be the way you spend Thanksgiving.
I totally wish we hopped in the car yesterday – we would be there by now *wink*.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Buckley clan! Enjoy.
PS – I’m thankful for you!
Thankful for you right back =)
We actually have a much Nerdy tradition around here. It’s actually something I started back with my dad and it trickled over to my family unit…and now my first son-in-law adopted it from me as well:
Watch “Big Trouble In Little China”
I don’t know why. It’s a guy thing…but we have been watching that things every year since 1988. VHS–a technology our own kids won’t know much longer…the 8 Track Tape version of movies.
Anyway, we always watched that….AND Transformers, the Movie (1986). Again, a guy thing, but all the kids love it. My kids always laugh when they hear the opening line:
“It’s the year 2005….”
This was fun to read. You and I have a lot in common! And I love the picture with cake smashed on your face…
…it would be better UNcooked.
(hysterical laughter)
Sorry, couldn’t let this conversation go.
Someday someone’s going to agree with me.
Cookie dough ROCKS!
Oh Jaime… you just HAD to mention that. LOL
How neat that we have some things in common! Those pictures… oh my. Although I must say, I even laugh when I see them.
I love making lists too! Otherwise I forget a lot of things. A lot.
You know, there are some essential oils that can help with the mood swings during that time of month. ;)
You crack me up with your expressions. Love it!
And yes! I hate the sound of people eating! Ugh, the worse!
xoxo
Yay for list-makers!
I’ve looked into essential oils but Young Living EO are really pricey to ship to Canada. I might have to look into an alternative. Seriously… I’m a wildebeest!
The open-mouth eaters seriously drive me crazy!
Happy Thanksgiving my friend.
PS – I’m really thankful for you!
xoxo
I’m a list-maker, too, but I my calendar looks nothing like yours. That’s impressive. I keep my lists in a small notebook, and (understandably), I have a very systematic way of keeping, controlling, and ultimately crossing-off the items on these lists. It’s a talent. Or a sickness. One of the two.
For the record, I hate the sound of chewing, too. ;)
I knew you would be a list-maker! Yay for lists! I just loooooove crossing things off. I’m going to call your system a talent!
Glad to know open-mouthed eaters get to you too!
Hahahaha, I love your expressive pictures!
Yes, I can make some pretty weird expressions (and I don’t even have to try that hard)!
It was really great getting to learn a little bit more about you my friend. Guess what? I totally laugh at my own jokes too. I think people more than likely laugh at me than with me though. I’m not a list maker at all. I don’t like making lists. I’m a huge procrastinator and I wait until the very last minute to get anything done. I don’t like making friends but once I’m made one they usually become a friend for life. :) Since you’ve already celebrated your Thanksgiving in October, I’m going to say have a great rest of the week!
Yay for someone else who laughs at their own jokes! If we hung out, I’m sure we would laugh at each other’s jokes all the time!
I’m the same way with friends… it takes a bit but then like you said… friends for life!
Happy Thanksgiving my friend. I am so thankful for you!
I’m with you completely on #1 and #5. And now we know where your daughter gets her humor! Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.
So has anything helped you with your PMS Heather? I’m thinking of exploring essential oils – I seriously feel like a crazy woman for 5 out of 30 days of the month.
Glad you enjoyed this my fellow list-making friend!
I think that essential oils might work well. I can’t say for certain because they are a little out of my price range, but I know I’ve used them for headaches, muscle tension, and relaxation with excellent results. I’m going to try this supplement. I’ll let you know how it goes. http://amzn.to/1rI0JBs (aff link!)
I love your 7 facts and I love love the pictures!! We have so much in common.
I’m also very expressive but shy when I’m around people I don’t know.
I love making lists too but I suck at them. Haha!
I have the worst memory and I feel it’s gotten worse since I had my daughter. I’m sure making another human being made part of memory disappear. Lol!
Thanks for sharing. It’s funny how post like this make you feel like you know the person even though you’ve never met.
I’m delighted you enjoyed this Carolina!
Those pictures even make me laugh… with horror!
It’s so neat to find out what you have in common with someone (especially nitty, gritty details like these posts tend to dig up)!
Thanks again for nominating me to participate.
Fun! I can’t stand chewing noises at all. I am ok with it with kids, but when it’s adults, I freak out!
I don’t get any PMS, though. I have no idea why. It’s always pretty much without warning. I’m all fine and dandy and then.. it happens.
I pretty much live for lists, though.
I used to be okay with kids chewing with mouths open but I’ve grown so sensitive to it, I can’t stand it now!
I love my lists… especially when they’re pretty *swoon*.
Hi Jen,
This is a unique post and I love it! Most of the blogs and articles are all about life enthusiasm, joy and struggles but I really enjoyed this most!
PMS is the worst part of being a woman, I always say that everytime and I also use it as an excuse to my husband not to move or do chores at home and he would do everything I want :)
I should also write one to my journal Facts About Me. You gave me the greatest idea Jen.
Thanks!
It was fun to write about these little details and quirks in my life.
I hate PMS – it is the worst part of being a woman.
Let me know when you publish your facts about you – I would love to read them.
I think you need to offer a class for those with lack luster list skills. I am a terrible list maker, usually writing them on napkins, receipts etc. I do keep those nasty crumpled papers until the list is done, but really it’s kind of embarrassing.
List making class… hmmm, very interesting. Sounds to me like you need a small notebook instead of papers!
Hi Jennifer, it’s nice to learn a little more about you.
We always have the radio when eating…It’s not that any of us are particularly loud eaters (well at least I don’t think so), it’s just that I have really sensitive hearing and really don’t like hearing people eat.
I think your lists are the secret of your success! Lists can cause me to melt down. When I worked for the villa company, an Excel spreadsheet of arrivals and departures would totally confuse me and my mind would go blank. Once the information was transferred to my diary it all made sense to me.
Lists definitely keep me on track and organized. My brain seriously can’t function without them.
Wow Jennifer we sure do have a lot in common. I am a list maker as well I have them everywhere… Do you rewrite your lists after you finish the original ones? Well I do…I have to have everything planned out and also love, love, love spreadsheets and the like.Believe it or not in social situations I tend to be somewhat introverted and awkward if I don\’t know too many people…but get me around a crowd I know well and I am a social butterfly. I wish I could get over my insecurities but it is just who I am!I have a different type of sense of humor that most people don\’t get… There are even times when my husband looks at me oddly but it doesn\’t matter to me because I am usually cracking up hysterically! I also use my wit a lot and it goes right over people\’s heads.I so enjoyed reading this blog post that I think I will do a post about 7 Random Things About Me…if I can think of 7 things that is.Hope you are having a lovely Sunday!xxLysa
It’s so neat to discover how much we have in common with someone else!
I loved the similarities you shared here and I can’t wait to read your 7 Random Things post!
It is really neat to discover things you have in common with others… often explains what drew you to one another!
Just wanted to pop over here and let you know that I am about to publish the 7 Facts About Me as my 100th blog post in case you still wanted to read it.
xx
Lysa
This was soooo awesome lol. Omg we are alike in SO many ways!!!!!! I seriously love your list obsession, and I laughed so hard when you said “sticky notes can’t contain me” LOL. And I totally laugh at my own jokes all the time, my husband thinks I’m sad. I find myself hilarious though, and I bet I would think you are hilarious too. Anyone who laughs at their own jokes is my kind of person lol. LOVE those photos, especially the 2nd one, I’m also a tad introverted, and I have zero memory. We’re like twins separated at birth, I tell ya!!!
How neat to find out how much we have in common! I would have guessed that though because so many of the posts you write resonate with me… I figured we had to be functioning on similar wavelengths!
I wish I were as organized as you with list making. Every once in awhile I’ll get into a spreadsheet kick, but most of the time, it’s scrap pieces of paper laying about with things I need to remember or do. I have no idea how I’ve managed to hack it so far.
Jennifer,
I loved this article and really enjoyed learning more about you – well done!!! You’re a hoot, and love that you were bold enough to put what you thought were less than favorable pictures up of yourself. ;-) I think they’re cute!
I thought I WAS bad with lists…You take the cake, my dear! lol
Are you sure you don’t have Italian blood? Because they also use their hands a lot to express themselves…
The older I get, the more annoying slurping sounds are…I can completely relate to what you’re saying.
As for me, I did a recent post on 10 fun facts about myself, and one commenter called me out on one of them not being fun… He was right! It was all about me being hit with a car when I was a child and being in a body cast for close to a year. However, the other 9 were not at all serious like that…
I so enjoyed your transparency, Jennifer, which is refreshing in this day and age of stoic communication online.
Well done!
– Carol :-)
Cute is not the way I would describe those pictures but I will gladly accept the compliment Carol!
I remember that post you shared! Yes, the car accident was not a fun thing to report at all but it definitely gave a glimpse of an experience that you’ve been through.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this Carol. You never know what people will think when we share these kinds of posts… I’m glad I didn’t frighten anyone away… yet. *wink*
AW!!!!!! I loved reading these facts. I looooove making excel spreadsheets too. At my current job, I’ve made several for people just because…it makes life easier people! LOL I love the formulas and coming up with better ones. It’s sad the way I’ll volunteer or jump at the opportunity to create one.
I’m definitely a cheeseball…though you know this. LOL
I’m an introvert too. I seem like an extrovert because I power through things and I’m the first to introduce myself to a stranger because it is so awkward for me to NOT introduce myself or wait on someone else, but I very much protect who I really am and I don’t express my true self and feelings openly. I hold a lot back. I’m working on it….
I love you!!!!!!!!!!! <3!
Yay for making Excel spreadsheets! It’s the one thing I really miss about working. I used to LOVE making spreadsheets, coming up with the formulas, etc. It could just make a girl giddy I tell you!
Love you too chick-a-dee! We have so much in common… it’s crazy! Kindred spirits I tell you!
Lists are awesome. I make them all the time. Whether I use them/find them later is another story. And while I don’t think I’m expressive, my kids are and my husband says they get it from me! Or I get it from them – it’s hard to tell at this point who is copying who.
By the by, I finally took up the invitation to write my own 7 Facts List and just published it!
Lists totally keep me in line. I can’t survive without them. It sounds like you need a notebook for your lists… then you won’t lose them.
I’m so glad you played along. I loved your 7 random facts!
