Oh, how come nothing is ever easy? I frequently ask myself this, as a simple task usually turns into a long ordeal with a story that goes with it. Here’s my latest….
I have been blogging for almost two years. With 382 postings in my back pocket, I thought it was due time for me to purchase my own domain… I was ready to tie the knot and profess my complete devotion to The Deliberate Mom.
Apparently, this process is relatively easy with a Blogger account. They will even forward your second-tier, blogspot.com traffic to your custom domain. It seemed easy enough and very affordable. At $10/year my visitors could drop the blogspot part out of my address. So I purchased my domain… www.thedeliberatemom.com, tweaked some settings in my Blogger account and waited for my website to “appear”. Just as I was tiring of the 404 error page… something happened! I typed in my domain and got this:
No way! No! Nooooooooooooooooooo! *stamps feet and curses at the computer*. Wonderful, I just purchased a domain that is a hub/link-up for porn. Perfect. To make matters worse, Blogger was promptly and efficiently directing all of my site traffic to my brand new “domain”. You can imagine my horror as I processed the implications….
Professional colleagues read my blog.
Moms read my blog.
My friends read my blog.
My aunts read my blog.
My sister-in-law reads my blog.
My mother-in-law reads my blog.
My PARENTS read my blog.
I felt sick. I immediately went into panic mode. What was I going to do? However, I gathered my strength, wiped the sweat from my brow and went to work. I tweeted, I e-mailed, I Googled, I posted on forums and finally after much work, I got my wholesome domain back. I can laugh about it now. Another story to share. Another ordeal I got through. Another bizarre situation that happened to me.
So it’s a minor change but The Deliberate Mom now resides at www.thedeliberatemom.com. Don’t worry though, if you’ve bookmarked the blogspot address, Blogger has faithfully promised to redirect you to my new site (and hopefully that “other” Deliberate Mom site is history). YAY… (dot com).
