When I think of clotheslines, I think of my paternal grandmother. Every time I was at her house, I recall seeing clothes outside on the clothesline, swaying in the wind.
I’ve always wanted a clothesline but living in a townhouse has restricted us from having one. Our bylaws clearly state that a clothesline can not be in the yard.
Last year I spied a folding clothes drying rack and began to yearn for one. However, $25 seemed a little steep for me. So I put it on our garage sale wish list and last weekend I found one… for $5!
Not only was this an awesome, money-saving, find but it will continue to save me money in electricity costs (since I won’t be running my dryer as much). I’m guessing my savings this summer alone will double what I paid for this little gem!
Excited! Yes indeed! I love my clothes drying rack.
Do you hang your clothes out to dry?
I was going to say I don’t hang clothes to dry, but now that I think about it, I hang an awful lot of stuff that just can’t go in the dryer over railings and on hangers! Your rack outside makes much more sense!
What a neat rack! I want a clothesline really bad I’m just waiting on my husband to make one for me :)
My husband announced to his class that he had given me a solar dryer for my birthday. His “green” stuents were totally impressed until he took the clothes line out of his briefcase and showed them the solar dryer. I love to hang towels and sheets out to dry. They smell like the linens my grandmother and mother used on our beds. The towels dried in the sun are better than any loofa sponge for exfoliating . Jody, The Medicare Mom.
I love that you were able to find one! I have a smaller one than that for things that can’t go in the dryer and I love it! :-)
Good find! We have a clothesline and I love it but don’t use it nearly enough.
I always used a clothing rack to dry my things in college- to save the quarters but like you clothing lines are a memory from childhood. Growing up with 6 people in the house meant we had a huge clothing line outside- the old fashioned kind all summer long.
I think I need a clothes line! That sounds lovely! But definitely not for jeans!! :)
I love that rack! That is funny that we both blogged about drying clothes this week. I think we have many parallels….fun to ‘find’ you in the blogging world! :)
I have a clothesline… need to use it more!
What a great find. We had a clothesline growing up. We rent now and can’t have one but something like this would be great.
Our dryer broke about 3 1/2 years ago (a long story that leaves me a little bitter lol) so I’ve been mostly air drying ever since. I take the clothes to the laundromat to dry when there are too many, but that’s been months now. We used hangers on the towel rack in the bathroom until we got an “official” drying rack with a Chrstmas gift card. I love the summer because then I can dry clothes outside instead of inside – much quicker.
I have been solar drying clothes for 40 years, including cloth diapers with two in diapers,. Yes I have a dryer but it is only used when my grown children need to use it for one reason or another, usually when they visit. There are so, so many pluses. When my children were very young, my husband would either do it or take watch over our darlings. The plus, a time alone. Another plus is folding right off the line. I organize automatically so they are folded in the order hung up and eventually distributed to drawers. I hang many of my clothes on hangers on the sides of my large umbrella line, no folding necessary. The amount we saved over Thorpe years…….wish I knew but a lot I think! Both my husband and I find this relaxing, rewarding and profitable.
I LOVE to hang my clothes outside. I’m in FL, so I can do it mostly year round. I’m so grateful for the sun and breeze. It’s a nurturing task for me…why I don’t know! But I love it! It saves us about 20 bucks a month on electricity too. Highly recommend!
